The search for a missing man presumed drowned was called  on Monday, July 19, near Twillingate, on Newfoundland’s northeast coast. The man has been missing since Saturday after a boat overturned and sank. Four people, two men and two boys who were brothers, were pleasure boating on Saturday, July 17, when something went wrong. The small boat left Twillingate harbour on Saturday afternoon and was seen by several fishing boats and a tour boat later in the day several miles to the northeast of the harbour. Search and rescue received a call on Saturday night from someone reporting an overdue boat. A search team was coordinated but the area was shrouded in fog with very high seas running on Sunday morning. One veteran fisherman told the Navigator, it was one of the highest seas he’s seen at this time of year. Those conditions hampered search efforts because the area is infested with breakers. A shrimp vessel on its way to Twillingate spotted a life jacket and a cooler on Saturday night. Three bodies have been found. The two brothers aged 13 and 10 and one of the adults were recovered Sunday morning. An evening candlelight vigil was held for the victims in Twillingate on Monday night. A thousand people turned out to pay respects to the victims.
