Scallop Fishery Closure – Placentia Bay

DFO advises fish harvesters that the portion of Scallop Fishing Area 10 (Placentia Bay), inside a line drawn from Point Verde (47 14.33" N, 54 00.94"W) on the east side of the bay, to Red Harbour (47 16.59"N, 54 58.58"w) on the west side, is closed and will reopen September 1, 2015 in line with the management plan for that fishery.

DFO advises anglers that the winter trout angling season for Zone 1 (Insular Newfoundland) closes on April 15, 2015. Angling for trout in tidal waters is still permitted, however, the daily bag limit applies. The angling season for inland waters in Zone 1 (Insular Newfoundland) will re-open on May 15, 2015 and close on September 7, 2015. Ship’s Crew Hospitalized After Eating Tainted Fish

Health officials in New Brunswick say food poisoning has hospitalized the majority of the crew from a ship in the port of Saint John, the Canadian Press reported. The ship involved is the Panama-registered Balsa 85 and the crew is from the Philippines. Fourteen of 19 crew members are in serious but stable condition at Saint John Regional Hospital after eating toxic fish on the ship Saturday.
