Violations of the Fish and Wildlife Act Lead to Convictions
Separate investigations last year by Fish and Wildlife Enforcement officers of the Gander detachment have led to convictions for two individuals for violations of the Fish and Wildlife Act related to illegal salmon fishing and big game hunting.
On June 30, 2014, officers received an anonymous tip through Crime Stoppers of illegal netting activity in the Salmon Pond area near Glenwood. After conducting surveillance, a male was ultimately arrested and charged with a number of offences.
Federal Government Funds New St. John’s Coast Guard Headquarters
The federal government announced today a $40-million investment for a new Atlantic region headquarters base to be built in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador.
The new facility is designed for increased functionality in the modern workplace with the required codes and standards for occupational health and safety, and improved security. In support of government initiatives for green and energy efficient operations, tidal energy will be used to heat and cool the building.
