DFO advises that in accordance with the soft-shell crab protocol, that Grids R39 and R40 in NAFO Division 2J will close to fishing snow crab and shrimp at midnight on Saturday, June 27, 2015 due to a high incidence of soft-shell crab. Four fishermen from Tignish were rescued in the waters off Prince Edward Island and New Brunswick Sunday morning after their vessel took on water. The vessel was 154 kilometres east of Shippagan, N.B. and 93 kilometres northeast of Tignish, P.E.I. Joint Task Force Atlantic says a distress signal came from the vessel's beacon after 4 a.m. AT. DFO Increases P.E.I. Tuna Allocation by 20 Per Cent

Tuna fishermen in Prince Edward Island will now have an opportunity to catch more of the highly sought-after fish. Fisheries and Oceans Minister Gail Shea announced Friday a 30-tonne increase in the Island’s 2015 allocation. The Island’s allocation last year was 125.86 metric tonnes and the 331 Island boats that participated in the fishery came to within 28.9 kilograms of filling it. Lobster fishermen in areas of Prince Edward Island and New Brunswick have been granted a four-day extension to their seasons, past next weeks' scheduled closure date of July 1.
