First Seasonal Opening Date for 4R Atlantic Halibut
DFO advises that the Atlantic Halibut hook and line (long line) fishery in NAFO Division 4RST, for fixed gear vessels less than 65 feet based in Western NL and Southern Labrador, will open at 0600hrs hours on MONDAY, June 22, 2015.
This fishery is open for vessel class A288 and will close at 2000hrs on June 28, 2015.
New conditions for this fishery must be obtained through the National Online Licencing System prior to engaging in fishing activities.

Greenland Halibut (Turbot) Fishery <65-foot Fixed Gear Fleet opening in NAFO Divisions 2+3K
DFO advises that the fixed gear Greenland halibut fishery (Turbot) in NAFO Divisions 2+3K will open for vessels less than 65 feet at 0600 hrs, June 24, 2015 and will close 2000 hrs, July 3, 2015.
Fish Harvesters are required to hail-out to an At Sea Observer Company 24 hours prior to leaving port.
All gear must be removed from the waters of NAFO Divisions 2+3K at the end of the trip.

UPDATE – TSB Deploys Team to Investigate Placentia Bay Fishing-related Fatalities
The Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB) announced yesterday it is deploying a team of investigators to Argentia, Newfoundland and Labrador, to investigate the sinking of a fishing vessel resulting in the loss of life of the three crew members. The TSB will gather information and assess the occurrence.
