Recent tips from the public about the illegal netting and selling of wild Atlantic salmon on the Baie Verte Peninsula have resulted in two males facing charges under the Federal Fisheries Act.

Soft-Shell Closed Area for Crab and Shrimp Fishing in NAFO Division 2J
DFO advises that in accordance with the soft-shell crab protocol, that Grids R39 and R40 in NAFO Division 2J will close to fishing snow crab and shrimp at midnight on Saturday, June 27, 2015 due to a high incidence of soft-shell crab.
All crab pots must be removed from this area.
These grids will re-open on August 27, 2015 for northern shrimp. The coordinates for these grids are:

Capelin Fixed Gear Fishery Opening in Portions of Area 14
DFO advises that the Capelin fixed gear fishery using traps and bar seine (including modified bar seine known as "tuck seine"), for vessels less than 65 feet, in Capelin Fishing Area 14 from Big Brook to Cape Bauld and east of a line drawn between the following points: 51 degrees 20 minutes North, 56 degrees 57 minutes West and 51 degrees 57 minutes North, 55 degrees 21 minutes West will open at 0600hrs on Wednesday, July 1, 2015.
