Southern Shore Fixed Gear Capelin Fishery Opening
DFO advises that the capelin fishery, for vessels less than 19.8 metres, using fixed gear, in that portion of Capelin Fishing Area 8 (Southern Shore) from Cape Neddick to Cape Pine will open at 0600 hours on July 4, 2015.
Fish harvesters are reminded that no capelin may be removed from any fixed gear until the fishery has been open for a period of 24 hours and dockside monitoring requirements are in place for this fishery.

George Leyte of Gander, NL was convicted in Gander Provincial Court on June 2, 2015 for breaching one count of the Fishery (General) Regulations and for obstructing a fishery guardian.
He is ordered to pay a total of $3,000, forfeited his rod and reel and received a two-year fishing prohibition.

DFO advises that the Atlantic Halibut hook and line (long line) fishery in NAFO Division 4RST, for fixed gear vessels less than 65 feet based in Western NL and Southern Labrador, will open at 0600hrs hours on Monday, July 6, 2015.
This fishery is open for vessel class A289 and will close at 2000hrs on July 12, 2015.
