Labrador Straits Ferry Users Advised of Alternate Service Delivery, January 5 – January 22

The Department of Transportation and Works advises Labrador ferry users of an alternate ferry schedule and temporary air service for a two and a half week period from January 5 to January 22.

The alternate schedule is necessary to allow for annual maintenance of the MV Apollo prior to the ice season and while a contracted relief vessel undergoes repairs.

From January 5 to January 22, the MV Astron will provide service between Blanc Sablon and St. Barbe for vehicle traffic and a maximum of 12 passengers. This will be supplemented by air service between Blanc Sablon airport and Sandy Cove airport with a shuttle service provided to transport passengers between the ferry terminal and the airport. Ferry users are advised that there will be no change to fares.

The current MV Apollo passenger and vehicle rates will be charged for air service and ferry service for the MV Astron.

A detailed schedule will be provided in early December. Ferry users are advised that the schedule will support daily traffic volumes, however it is anticipated there may be some disruption to passengers due to the capacity of the MV Astron. The Department of Transportation and Works apologizes for any inconvenience.

Residents of the North Coast of Labrador are advised that freight service will be maintained via the MV Northern Ranger and that guaranteed freight service will be met.

For inquiries regarding the temporary schedule, ferry users can contact Labrador Marine Inc. toll free within the province at 1-866-535-2567. Nunatsiavut Marine can be contacted at 709-896-2262 or toll free at 1-800-896-2262.
