On April 18, DFO announced the Ministerial Advisory Panel (MAP) to carry out the external review of the Department’s Last-In, First-Out policy (LIFO) for the Northern shrimp fishery.
The panel members include Barbara Crann, Wayne Follett, Dr. Sean Riley, Paul Sprout and Trevor Taylor.
The panel is planning to hold public consultation meetings with fishers, Indigenous peoples, industry and others to hear their views on the LIFO policy. For planning purposes, anyone wishing to attend a meeting will be required to register for that meeting in advance. The Panel is also accepting written submissions.
The MAP, guided by a chair is to offer advice if LIFO should be continued, modified or abolished for the 2016 season and beyond.
The written report to the Minister will be provided in French or English and a final copy will be provided to the Senior Assistant Deputy Minister (ADM) of Ecosystems and Fisheries Management (EFM) no later than June 15, 2016.
