The Port de Grave Peninsula is preparing to welcome thousands of visitors once again as the 27th Annual Port de Grave Boat Lighting, presented by TriNav Group of Companies, officially opens on December 12. This cherished holiday tradition transforms the working harbour into a glowing winter wonderland, featuring more than 40 decorated fishing vessels lit nightly until January 6.
Recognized as one of Newfoundland and Labrador’s most iconic Christmas events, the Boat Lighting attracts families, tourists, and former residents from across the province and beyond. For more than a quarter century, this volunteer-led celebration has showcased the heart of the local fishery, the dedication of harvesters, and the spirit of the Port de Grave community.
“Each December, our harbour becomes a symbol of pride — not only for our local fishing families, but for everyone who calls or has ever called Port de Grave home,” said Joyce Morgan, Chair of the Port de Grave Boat Lighting Committee. “This tradition is powered by volunteers, harvesters, and sponsors who come together to create something truly magical.”
This year’s event continues to grow, with a full schedule that includes the 51st annual Santa Claus Parade, a harvester-sponsor networking reception presented by BMO Commercial Banking, and a range of community activities coordinated by community groups. Visitors are encouraged to check the Facebook page and website for updates, maps, parking details, and sponsor acknowledgements.
