Gail Shea, Minister of Fisheries and Oceans, Regional Minister for PEI and Member of Parliament for Egmont, today announced that the federal government is investing in a major project to improve the harbour at Skinners Pond, PEI. The project will provide a safer and more efficient working environment for harbour users and local fishermen.
This year at Skinners Pond, plans will be developed for extending the breakwater prior to construction of the extension in 2016-17.
The extension will provide safer navigation at the harbour entrance and reduce the requirement of dredging during peak periods. It will also provide better protection from sudden storm and weather events. Maintenance dredging is planned and will also be carried out when necessary.
