Soft-Shell Closed Area for Crab and Shrimp Fishing in NAFO Division 2J

DFO advises that in accordance with the soft-shell crab protocol, that Grids R39 and R40 in NAFO Division 2J will close to fishing snow crab and shrimp at midnight on Saturday, June 27, 2015 due to a high incidence of soft-shell crab.

All crab pots must be removed from this area.

These grids will re-open on August 27, 2015 for northern shrimp.  The coordinates for these grids are:

R39

  • 52° 30’ North, 54° 00’ West
  • 52° 30’ North, 53° 50’ West
  • 52° 20’ North, 53° 50’ West
  • 52° 20’ North, 54° 00’ West

R40

  • 52° 30’ North, 53° 50’ West
  • 52° 30’ North, 53° 40’ West
  • 52° 20’ North, 53° 40’ West
  • 52° 20’ North, 53° 50’ West

As well, DFO advises that the directed Atlantic halibut longline fishery in NAFO Divisions 3NO for fishing vessels less than 90 feet is closing as of 2000 hours on July 01, 2015. All fishing gear must be removed from the water by closing time.
