2017 N.L. Shrimp Price Drops Below $1/Pound
The beleaguered Newfoundland and Labrador Northern Shrimp industry received more bad news recently when the 2017 price was set at .95 cents/pound (CAD).
This is down from the average price of $1.40/pound in 2016 and $1.80/pound in 2015.
This lower price follows on the heels of recent massive quota cuts to Northern shrimp, particularly in Shrimp Fishing Area (SFA) 6.

Thousands of Jobs at Risk in Northern Shrimp Fishery, FFAW Claims
The Fish Food and Allied Workers Union (FFAW-Unifor) is stating that thousands of harvesting and processing jobs in rural Newfoundland and Labrador may be lost if the current fisheries management policies for northern shrimp are maintained.

FFAW Calls for Immediate Halt to Northern Shrimp Fishery in Area 6
The Fish Food and Allied Workers (FFAW-Unifor) is calling for an immediate halt to all northern shrimp fishing activity in Shrimp Fishing Area 6 (SFA6), which is located adjacent to the northeast coast of Newfoundland and the southeast coast of Labrador.
