Ossinger, 89, passed away at the Roseway Hospital on February 13. Born in Watertown, Maine, he was a son of the late Hilburne and Eva (Goulden) Ossinger. He was an avid fisherman all his working life.
Passed On: Martin Fisher – Southwest Port Mouton, N.S. fisherman
Fisher, 57, passed away on February 8 at the Queens General Hospital, Liverpool. Born in Liverpool, he was a son of Hazel (Allison) Fisher of Port Mouton and the late Earl Fisher. He was a fisherman his entire life and loved being on the water.
Passed On: Richard Smith – Upper Clyde, N.S. fisherman
Smith, 81, passed away at the Roseway Hospital on February 14. He was the son of the late Muriel Smith and was raised by his grandmother, the late Lulah Smith. He worked construction in Ontario and later returned home to go lobster fishing.
Passed On: John Hubbard – Amirault’s Hill, N.S. mariner
Hubbard, 75, passed away on February 14 in hospital after a brief illness. Born on April 9, 1943, he was one of four children born to the late Adolphe and Evelyn Hubbard. He worked as a cook for CN Marine/Marine Atlantic for most of his adult life, sailing aboard the Bluenose and Marine Evangeline before hanging-up his apron in October 1997.
Passed On: Ernest Brannen – Shelburne, N.S. fisherman
Brannen, 87, passed away on February 11 at the Roseway Hospital. Born in Stoney Island, May 13, 1931, he was a son of the late Ashley and Edith (Brown) Brannen. He was a fisherman for all his working life.
Passed On: Rene LaPlante – East Jordan, N.S. fisherman
LaPlante, 48, passed away suddenly on February 9 at the Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Born in Prince Rupert, B.C., he was a son of Ruth (Mahaney) LaPlante and the late Rene LaPlante Sr. He was an avid fisherman with a 10-year history fishing on the Clearwater Fleet, most recently on the Preserver. He also enjoyed fishing on his boat.
Passed On: Paul Moulaison – Abram’s River, N.S. mariner
Moulaison, 80, passed away on February 6 at the Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Born on December 21, 1938 in Amirault’s Hill, he was a son of the late Delbert and Celeste (LeBlanc) Moulaison. He was a retired chef aboard the MV Bluenose, having worked his way up through the ranks over his 43-year career with Marine Atlantic.
Passed On: Danny Fevens – Yarmouth, N.S. fish plant worker
Fevens, 52, passed away suddenly on February 2. He was born on June 24, 1966 in Yarmouth. He was a very hard worker and was recently employed by Quality Seafoods in Rockville, where he spent most of his time.
Passed On: Derek Spears – Port Hood, N.S. fisherman
Spears passed away on January 20 at the Halifax Infirmary. He was a very proud third-generation fishermen and Captain of the Charity Christine out of Murphy’s Pond, Port Hood.
Passed On: Harold Baker – Gulliver’s Cove, N.S. fisherman
Baker, 68, passed away on February 13 at the Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Born in Kentville, he was a son of the late Franklin and Marion (Acker) Baker. He was a hard worker who enjoyed the fishing industry.
