Passed On: Paul Gallant — N.S. yacht broker and sailor

Gallant, 68, passed away on November 2, 2023. He was born on December 31, 1954. Gallant was no stranger to the yachting world. He had over 40 years in the yacht service industry, from rigging to cosmetics, composites and project management and was a yacht broker with Ocean Yacht Sales. Gallant represented Canada in eight Sailing World Championships in various classes and holds the distinction of being a four-time sailing National Champion.

 

Passed On: John MacDonald — Saint John, N.B. Coast Guard

MacDonald, 74, passed away in Saint John on November 12, 2023. He was born in Saint John on August 23, 1949. MacDonald worked as a seaman with the Canadian Coast Guard for 30 years until his retirement.

 

Passed On: George Bains — Reefs Harbour, N.L. fish harvester

Bains, 64, passed away on November 20, 2023. Bains was a fish harvester all of his life.

 

Passed On: David Goudey — Salmon River, N.S. Coast Guard, fish harvester and mariner

Goudey, 79, passed away in Yarmouth, N.S. on November 20, 2023. He was born in Digby, N.S. on March 7, 1944. Goudey developed a love of the ocean from an early age and spent his younger years at sea in many roles. He joined the Canadian Coast Guard, worked on ships and fished off the Yarmouth County coast.

 

Passed On: John Wilson — Saint John, N.B. Coast Guard and boat builder

Wilson, 87, passed away in Saint John on November 20, 2023. He was born in Saint John on May 8, 1936. Wilson had a 35-year-long career with the Canadian Coast Guard and when not working, could often be found building small boats.

 

Passed On: Donald Reardon — N.L. fish harvester

Reardon, 70, passed away in St. John’s, N.L. on October 31, 2023. He was born on December 31, 1952. Reardon was a hard worker who fished for all of his life from a very young age.

 

Passed On: Sidney Moore — N.S. fish harvester and at-sea observer

Moore, 57, passed away in Halifax, N.S. on November 20, 2023. He was born in Digby, N.S. on December 10, 1965. Moore worked as a fish harvester and later as an at-sea observer.

 

Passed On: Lester Humby — St. Lunaire, N.L. fish harvester

Humby, 73, passed away on October 29, 2023. He was born in St. Lunaire on February 16, 1950. Humby was known to be a hard worker by all that knew him. He was a fish harvester who also built boats and did carpentry all throughout his life.

 

Passed On: Bruce Gallagher — Yarmouth, N.S. fish harvester

Gallagher, 66, passed away in Yarmouth on November 18, 2023. He was born in Yarmouth on October 24, 1957. Gallagher was a fish harvester by trade.

 

Passed On: Patrick Doyle — St. John’s, N.L. fish harvester

Doyle, 74, passed away at home on November 19, 2023. He was born on October 17, 1949. Doyle was a devoted fish harvester for 40 years. His heart was always on the water even after he retired. Many trips were made to Southside Road to chat with the boys and catch up on all the news.
