LeBlanc, 75, passed away on May 13 at the Sacred Heart Community Health Centre, Cheticamp. He was a son of the late Louis Edmond and the late Marie Therese (LeFort) LeBlanc. He was a retired fisherman.
Passed On: John Newell – Port La Tour, N.S. fisherman
Newell, 84, passed away on May 5 at the Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Born on March 26, 1938, he was the son of the late Harold and Evelyn (Doane) Newell. He was a fisherman most of his life and enjoyed being on the water.
Passed On: Hubert Goodwin – Centreville, N.S. fisherman
Goodwin, 91, passed away on May 14 at the Bay Side Home, Barrington. Born on July 31, 1930, at Swim’s Point, Clark’s Harbour, he was the son of the late Hubert and Seretha (Swim) Goodwin. He went to Ontario at a young age and worked on the lake boats. He later returned home and went fishing and lobstering. He was also well known for his boat racing and his boat Jaws, which he raced as far as Pictou and Prince Edward Island.
Passed On: Romain Pothier – Wedgeport, N.S. fisherman
Pothier, 88, passed away on May 6 at the Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Born on August 12, 1933, in Wedgeport, he was the son of the late Simon Loréné and Françoise Décima (LeBlanc) Pothier. He was a lobster fisherman and a seasonal Irish moss harvester. He also worked on the Bluenose and picked apples in the Valley and in the New England states.
Passed On: Clifford Doucette – Morris Island, N.S. fisherman
Doucette, 84, passed away on May 2 at the Meadows Home for Special Care, Yarmouth. Born on December 14, 1937, on Robert’s Island, he was a son of the late Eddie and Madeline (Muise) Doucette. He was a scallop fisherman all of his working life.
Passed On: Lynes Thorburne – Barrington Passage, N.S. fisherman
Thorburne, 60, passed away on May 1 at the Roseway Hospital. Born in Sandy Point, he was the son of the late Jack and Mary (Caldwell) Thorburne. Lynes was a lobster fisherman and worked at Long Point Fish building halibut boxes.
Passed On: Louis Melanson – Saulnierville, N.S. fish plant worker
Melanson, 74, passed away on May 30 at the Meadows Home for Special Care, Yarmouth. Born in Lower Saulnierville, he was a son of the late Denis and Elizabeth (Theriault) Melanson. He spent a lifetime working for Comeau Seafoods Ltd.
