Halloran, 67, passed away at home on January 13. He was born on December 20, 1955, in Sydney, N.S. He and his wife, Cindy, moved to St. John’s in 1983 to run what would become a family business, Always in Vogue — a proprietor of sealskin products. He was a steadfast advocate for the Newfoundland and Labrador sealing industry, regularly acting as the voice of opposition to both local and international protests on the fur and sealskin trade.

 

Passed On: Jonathan Ross — Yarmouth, N.S. accountant

Ross, 41, passed away on January 16. He was born on November 4, 1981, in Halifax, N.S. He worked as an accountant for Chebogue Fisheries.

 

Passed On: William Nickerson — Pennfield, N.B. fisherman

Nickerson, 78, passed away on January 7, in Saint John, N.B. He was born on June 8, 1944. A carpenter by trade, he spent his younger years fishing out of Mispec, N.B.

 

Passed On: Lester Ross — Oak Park, N.S. fisherman

Ross, 73, passed away on January 21, in Yarmouth, N.S. He was born on September 1, 1949. He made a living as a fisherman.

 

Passed On: Leonard Surette — Meteghan, N.S. fisherman

Surette, 90, passed away on January 24, in Meteghan. He was born on August 16, 1931, in Surette’s Island, N.S. He was a lifelong lobster fisherman.

 

Passed On: Michael MacDonald — East Point, P.E.I. fisherman

MacDonald, 68, passed away on January 21. He was born on April 23, 1954. He will be remembered for his hard work and love of the sea, having spent 50 years as a fisherman in North Lake, Prince Edward Island.

 

Passed On: Sinclair Daley — Shelburne, N.S. fisherman

Daley, 88, passed away on January 13, in Shelburne, N.S. He was born on April 21, 1935. He was a fisherman and loved to be on the water.

 

Passed On: Gerald Jones — Clark’s Harbour, N.S. fisherman

Jones, 81, passed away on January 8, in Yarmouth, N.S. He was born on June 2, 1941. He was a fisherman and an Irish moss harvester.

 

Passed On: Gordon Williams — St. John’s, N.L. accountant

Williams, 97, passed away on December 25 in St. John’s, N.L. He spent 10 years working as a controller for Arctic Fisheries in Dildo, N.L.

 

Passed On: Robert Nickerson — The Hawk, N.S. fisherman and fish plant worker

Nickerson, 79, passed away at home on December 28. He was born on September 17, 1943. He was a lobster fisherman and worked at the local fish plant.

 

Passed On: John Pauzé — Wedgeport, N.S. mariner

Pauzé, 90, passed away on January 4, in Yarmouth, N.S. He was born on August 7, 1932, in Montréal, QC. He was employed in many fields, at one time serving as a cook for crews out scalloping.

 

Passed On: Colby Ross — Clam Point, N.S. fisherman

Ross, 25, passed away at home on December 24. He was born on October 12, 1997. He often went lobster fishing with his father aboard the Kayla & Colby.

 

Passed On: Charles Quinlan — Stoney Island, N.S. fisherman

Quinlan, 79, passed away on December 21, in Yarmouth, N.S. He was born on September 15, 1943, in Stoney Island, N.S. He enjoyed fishing and lobstering with his son.

 

Passed On: Larry Williams — Dartmouth, N.S. fish plant worker

Williams, 66, passed away on December 31, in Halifax. He was born in Port Mouton, N.S. For a time, he worked at C.W. McLeod Fisheries in Port Mouton.

 

Passed On: Gerald Hunt — Greenfield, N.S. mariner

Hunt, 87, passed away on December 31, in Bridgewater, N.S. He spent part of his life working with the coast guard in Dartmouth, N.S.

 

Passed On: Edward Fisher — Milton, N.S. fisherman

Fisher, 64, passed away at home on December 27. He was born in Liverpool, N.S. He was a fisherman all of his life.
