Passed On: Anthony Pothier — Lower Wedgeport, N.S. fish harvester

Pothier, 89, passed away at home on July 13, 2023. He was born on June 21, 1934. From age 14, Pothier fished with his father and soon moved on to owning his own boat. Later on in life, he participated in the Wedgeport Tuna Tournaments as a tour guide. Pothier fished as far away as Australia, where he taught locals to harpoon tuna.

 

Passed On: Raymond Fillier — N.L. fish harvester and fish plant worker

Fillier, 79, passed away on July 2, 2023. He was born on August 17, 1943. Fillier worked as a fish harvester for 30 years and retired at age 55. In the summer, he worked at a fish plant as well as at the local fish store.

 

Passed On: Earl Doane — Gunning Cove, N.S. coast guard

Doane, 73, passed away in Shelburne, N.S. on July 3, 2023. He was born on March 7, 1950. Doane spent most of his career working with the federal government on marine vessels, including working with an RCMP patrol in British Columbia and with the Department of Fisheries and Oceans and the Coast Guard in Nova Scotia.

 

Passed On: Eric Theriault — Saulnierville, N.S. boatbuilder

Theriault, 55, passed away at home on July 4, 2023. He was born in Yarmouth, N.S. on December 14, 1967. Theriault proudly worked as a fibreglasser at A.F. Theriault & Son Ltd.

 

Passed On: Peter Doucette — Mavillette, N.S. fish plant worker

Doucette, 68, passed away in Yarmouth, N.S. on July 1, 2023. He was born in Mavillette on July 6, 1954. For many years, Doucette worked in a fish plant.

 

Passed On: Gary Goguen — Saint John, N.B. boatbuilder

Goguen, 72, passed away in Saint John on July 4, 2023. He was born in Saint John on June 4, 1951. Goguen was a stager and high rigger and worked at the Saint John Dry Docks for many years.

 

Passed On: Wesley Andrews — Ship Cove, N.L. fish plant worker

Andrews, 79, passed away on July 3, 2023. He was born in Ship Cove on April 10, 1949. At a very young age, Andrews fished with his father before going to work at the fish plant in Trepassey. He then settled in Ship Cove, where he worked at the fish plant in St. Anthony.

 

Passed On: William Baker — Clark’s Harbour, N.S. fish harvester

Baker, 37, passed away in Yarmouth on June 26, 2023. He was born on August 6, 1985. Baker loved the great outdoors, being active and his work as a lobster fisherman and being on the water and all it had to offer.

 

Passed On: Real Belanger — Saint John, N.B. boatbuilder

Belanger, 76, passed away in Saint John on July 7, 2023. He was born in Sherbrook, Québec on May 9, 1947. The majority of Belanger’s career was spent at the dry dock with Saint John Shipbuilding Ltd.
